WEstern storm vs surrey stars

Western Storm’s bid to go straight through to the final of this year’s Kia Women’s Super League ended in disappointment when they were beaten by arch rivals Loughborough Lightning on Wednesday 15th August.

Loughborough have now replaced reigning champions Western Storm at the top of the table after a comfortable nine-wicket victory at Edgbaston.

A win against Yorkshire Diamonds on Saturday will see them progress directly to the final instead of the Storm Troopers.

Indian batter Smriti Mandhana top scored in a total of 124 for 6 for Western Storm which was never going to be enough.

That proved to be the case as Rachael Haynes, who carried her bat for 66, and Sophie Devine (38) put on 90 for the first wicket as Loughborough sailed to victory in the 12th over.

Both teams have already booked their places at the finals day at Hove on August 27.

Wollen Michelmore-sponsored Western Storm take on the Surrey Stars at the Kia Oval in their final league game on Saturday.
