Our Kit lands top award

Former apprentice Kit Hounsell has been praised by his company after winning a top award.

Kit, 26, was announced as the runner-up in the Computing Apprentice category at this year’s South Devon College Apprenticeship Awards.
The glittering awards night, held during National Apprenticeship Week, was held at Torquay’s Imperial Hotel on Thursday.

It was opened by principal Stephen Criddle. He and VIP guest Greg Fitzgerald both emphasised how important apprentices were to businesses and the market place.

Mr Fitzgerald was a former student at the college when its campus was based in Torre, Torquay. He went on to become one of the most well-known names in the UK’s construction and homes building industry.

He was in charge of Galliford Try when it built the South Devon Link Road, or Kingskerswell Bypass. He now heads up Bovis and Baker Estates.

Kit was employed as an apprentice by South Devon solicitors Wollen Michelmore and he attended South Devon College at their now Paignton site for one day a week training from September 2016 to June 2018.
He took part in a Level 3 BTEC in ICT (Software Development) course which he completed at distinction star level.

He was promoted to IT Technician at Wollen Michelmore in July 2017.
“Congratulations Kit from all of us – much deserved and very well done,” was the message from Wollen Michelmore chief executive Chris Hart.
