The transformation of Torquay’s prime Torwood Street area is well under way – and has reached a new milestone.

The £32million development site has been a hive of activity since the diggers first appeared in September.

Now office space is being advertised as the developer seek tenants for the project.

The move has been welcomed by law firm Wollen Michelmore who have already signed up as the first tenants for the redevelopment which is due for completion in the summer of  2020.

They will be moving from their current home just around the corner on The Terrace into spanking new offices covering 14,500 square feet - and they will able to keep the same address.

The scheme has been 10 years in the making and was finally sealed after a deal between developers the THAT Group – led by Peter Tisdale and fashion giants Ted Baker boss Ray Kelvin – Torbay Council and bankers.

Agents Bettesworths are offering office units ranging from 3,500 square feet as part of the ‘exciting mixed use development’ which will also include a 130-bed Hilton chain hotel and food and drink units.

Wollen Michelmore have supported the regeneration project from the word go.

Chief executive Chris Hart said: “We’ve been huge supporters of the Torwood street project from the outset as we could see the potential for not only our new flagship office, but also the regeneration of the Torwood street site which has been needed for so long. We signed up for 14,500 sq ft and we will be starting the design phase of our new office shortly.”

He added: “We see this development as a huge vote of confidence in Torbay and South Devon and want to play a leading role in that.

The scheme has been a long time in the making but will give our area of the town and the nearby harbour and waterfront a massive boost.

“Hopefully this will be the catalyst for other regeneration projects which are just waiting to happen and which will transform the fortunes of the English Riviera and beyond.”
